Question
Posed:
Rasool, you've been a faithful supporter of Cross Movement Ministries
for quite some time now. My question is to you is, why do you
support CM Ministries, and what would you say to others (individuals or
churches) who are prayerfully considering to supporting our ministry?
Rasool's
Answer:
Well,
first, The
Problem.
Our youth are overwhelmingly influenced by peers and popular culture. A
generation of kids who pickup their moral codes through hip-hop culture
eagerly embrace the misogyny, drug abuse, materialism and violence that is
associated with hip-hop.
This
new generation whose cultural heritage resents mainstream culture is in
desperate need of the Gospel message presented in a way that will engage
them where they are.
Cross
Movement Ministries has honed its focus in on reaching the "hard to reach," using
their gifts, they proclaim that Jesus Christ is the Savior for our youth
and is their only escape from the downward cycle of sin sweeping through
our community. And they do this using the platform of
Hip-Hop oriented music and literature.
For almost a
decade they have been developing a movement of evangelism and discipleship
that reaches urban youth where they are—in Hip-Hop Culture. CM gives
clear presentations and invitations to receive Christ at every show. But
it doesn't end there, they also desire to see a growing number of urban
youth growing into vibrant relationships with Christ through the Word.
They have a Bible study
weekly, and their outreaches serve as mobilizers for the body of Christ.
The only
thing that has stifled their influence is finances.
In order to
make a significant impact into the Hip-hop Culture, they need to continue
to produce hi-quality materials which will appeal to urban
youth.
They also
need to maintain staff who are also urban youth who have benefited from
their ministry.
