At
the start of the new millennium, The Cross Movement joined Lancaster Bible
College (LBC) on a mission trip to the ghettos of Kingston, Jamaica, for two
weeks (January 5th - 17th, 2002). |

|
Though
fruitful, the trip was very dangerous and challenging to our
spiritual growth. Dispatched in groups of two or three, we
encountered a strong Rastafarian presence in most of the ghettos we
visited. Our mission? To make friends, develop relationships,
witness, and ultimately win souls to a saving knowledge of Jesus
Christ.

It's easy
to live in America, bounce from stage to stage and operate in
Christian service from community to community—when it doesn't cost
you anything. We take our hats off to the men and women who answer
the call of called to missions.

| There
is a day on our mission trip to Jamaica that I know none of us will
soon forget. Leading up to this day was an experience we encountered
on first day in Kingston, two days prior. I (The Tonic aka John
Wells) and two missions students were greeting with harmonious
lighters flicked in our faces, led by a chorus of "Fire for
Jesus, Jesus is a Faggot" when we attempted to witness to a
group of young Rastafarians who stood a few blocks away from where
we were dropped off. (I won't mention explicatives or detail the
final crescendo of clicking noises we heard—their knives clicking
open!) |
